Two Professional Tips For Effective Design Of Banner Stands

Banner stands may be cost-efficient, results-effective sales and marketing tools but it must be emphasized that these are just tools. Their efficacy largely rests on their effective design in the sense that these meet two main requirements, namely, attractive combination of colours, images and texts; and effective communication of the core message. When one is missing, such as when the banners attract attention but these poorly deliver the message, then the pop up stands become a waste of money.

Here are design tips from the pros that you should keep in mind when designing your pop up displays. You will likely end up with roll-up banners that actually attract attention and communicate your message.

Ensure Visibility of the Banners

Even when you have a good message, it will be moot when your target audience can neither easily see it from afar nor effectively read it up close.  Visibility is then the first rule of thumb in effective banner design, which applies regardless of the type, size and shape of the banner stands.

You have to consider three important points when designing with visibility in mind:

The size of the sign itself that can be seen from the expected viewing distance;
The location where the banner stand will be placed; and
The things that may interfere with the target audience actually seeing the sign on the pop up displays

Experimentation is then a must until you have the best size of the size including the fonts and their sizes, the colours and their contrasts, and the size of the banner itself.

It must be emphasized that the banner’s overall legibility and, thus, visibility is partly determined by the font, height and colour of the text. For example, if the texts are 3” high, then is maximum readable distance is only 100” and its best impact distance is 30” – you should use bigger fonts if you want to make the banner more visible especially in a large area.

Tip: Use just one or two highly legible fonts in your banners. Ensure that these complement each other for better readability of your message.

Look at the Overall Design

Pop up stands can be used for several purposes, such as during trade shows, sales presentations, and industry conventions. But such versatility can only be stretched so far.  You have to determine the actual purpose for the banners – what are its purpose (e.g., event-specific, single-use, or several settings), what are the locations where these will be used (e.g., indoors or outdoors), and at what distance, for example.

Keep these tips in mind when considering overall design in relation to colours, too:

Choose a single colour scheme for a clean and crisp look. The best choice is your company colors but be sure that the text and its message are still clearly legible.

Use foreground and background colours to highlight your message. Avoid complementary colours (e.g., red and green) since these cancel each other out, which means the text will be difficult to read.

Less is more – this is the best advice that you can apply when designing banner stands.  Just place crucial information on your banners, such as name and contact information coupled with the slogan and logo.
